In order for a shape to tessellate the angles around any vertex must add up to 360o.
Since the interior angles of a regular pentagon are 108o it is impossible to add up to
360o. However, the interior angles of a regular hexagon are 120o and 3 of these
added together will form 360o. Hence, a regular pentagon will not tessellate and a
regular hexagon will.
