Beam Column

1) The document presents a problem to check the adequacy of an ISHB 300 steel column that is 4.0m high and subjected to an axial load of 500kN and moments. 2) The column properties including cross-sectional area, section modulus, and principal axes are provided. 3) An interaction equation is used to check the column against combined effects of yielding and buckling, accounting for factors like effective length, slenderness ratios, and imperfection factors. The column is found to be adequate in both checks.

Problem: 1
A non sway intermediate column in a building frame with flexible joints is
4.0 m high and it is ISHB 300 @ 588 N/m steel section. Check the adequacy of
the section when the column is subjected to following load:
Factored axial load = 500 kN
Factored moments:

Assume effective length of the column as 3.4 m along both the axes.

Hence, section is O.K. against combined effects
