University Games Presentation

This document outlines a student-driven plan to increase inclusion and interaction between colleges at a growing university campus. The plan proposes holding intercollegiate games and events like sports, trivia, and history competitions (University Games) to promote an interdisciplinary focus among students. Short term goals include creating a student interest survey, applying for a grant, and developing pilot games/activities. Long term goals are to expand the pilot program, increase student involvement over time, and create a student group to sustain the efforts. The document summarizes several stakeholder meetings where attendees provided feedback on how to accomplish the plan's goals inclusively, identify funding sources, and determine the best time to hold events.

Exploring Leadership

Student Driven Plan for Positive Change

Vision
Provide an inclusive environment to all UC students
With a growing campus and student body, it is becoming more
difficult to connect with other students, especially those within
other colleges of the university.
We hope to provide a plan to increase interaction between
these colleges as we feel the interaction has become almost
non-existent.
UC definition of Inclusion: Authentically brings traditionally
excluded individuals and/or groups into processes, activities,
and decision/policy making.

Plan for Positive Change

UNIVERSITY GAMES
Intercollegiate games or events such as sports, trivia and
university history to promote university inclusiveness.
End Goal
Create Student Body with interdisciplinary focus that continues
beyond college.

Short Term SMART Goals

Create a survey determining student interest in university
games by July 28, 2014.
Write application for UC Invents grant.
Develop games or activities to achieve university-wide
inclusiveness.
Create Pilot Program to test how the event could be run.

Long Term SMART Goals

Develop the Pilot Program into a Full Program expanding the
games.
Increase student involvement within the first year of the games.
Increase interdisciplinary understanding by interaction amongst
colleges over time.
Continuous improvement of university games through student
feedback.
Create student group to sustain efforts

Stakeholder Meeting Rebecca Leeman

Random teams that last the semester.
Diversity games & international games & PAC & ability games are pre-established which could be
incorporated into University games.
Certain competitions (Physical) can be exclusive to some groups, so include events of a non physical
nature.
Physical contact will be exclusive.
Goal I and IV of 5 year diversity plan align with University Games which will bring support from RAPP
and other support organizations.
Run the plan by people and implement their advice (stakeholders) (identity centers) (AACR) (WC)
(LGBTQ) (RAPP).
Use UC style book for inclusive language in games and marketing.
Gender, Race, Sexual Orientation, Non-wealth, homeless/food insecure, nontraditional students
(older), Educational background and religion can lead to exclusion.
To help limit exclusion and increase diversity talk to their respective services.
No gender only events even on application form, same with race also look at calendar before
scheduling (Missouri U) to prevent religious holiday conflicts.
UC invents has grants for innovative ideas on campus for possible funding.
