Lacee Jacobs
School Counselor, Department Lead
Northwest Cabarrus High School
[email protected]
Qualifications:
I am a graduate student at Wake Forest University and a counselor at Northwest
Cabarrus High School working under a provisional license. I expect to graduate from
Wake Forest in August 2015 with a Masters degree in School Counseling. This degree
includes 60 hours of relevant coursework and is considered an Education Specialist
degree. I obtained Bachelors degree in Psychology in December 2009 from the
University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
Background and Theoretical Orientation:
I have worked in the school system since 2009. I worked for three years as a
teacher assistant in an elementary school and began my career as a school counselor in
2013 working under a provisional license. I have experience counseling high school
students from a wide variety of cultures, socioeconomic statuses, and educational levels.
I served on the New Hanover County Crisis team and have specialized training in grief
counseling.
As a school counselor, my goal is to provide appropriate services for all students,
which includes both preventative and responsive services. I use cognitive-behavioral and
solution focused techniques to help students overcome any concerns they experience at
school or at home. My approach is based on the belief that all students can be successful
once barriers to academic and social progress are identified and resolved. I also work
with parents and teachers to help put plans into action ensuring that student success is a
team effort.
School counselors do not diagnose students and are not equipped to provide longterm treatment so referrals may be necessary in some cases.
Appointments:
Each counselor at Northwest Cabarrus High school is assigned a specific section
of the alphabet; I work with students who have last names beginning with the letters K-Q.
Students and parents are encouraged to meet with their assigned counselor in order to
best serve the student, but special accommodations can be made as needed. If your
situation is urgent, and your assigned counselor is unavailable, please feel free to request
to meet with any available counselor.
Students may request to see their counselor at any time during the school day with
or without an appointment. Parents may want to schedule an appointment with
counselors in order to decrease the likelihood of a wait time, but walk-ins are always
welcome during regular school hours. Counselors are available before and after school
by appointment only.
Confidentiality:
Confidentiality means counselors will not discuss anything that is said in the
counseling session with anyone else, except in certain situations or unless you ask us to.
All conversations with students and parents are confidential. In the following instances, I
am required by law to report information to the proper agencies (and/or parents):
Thoughts or threats of suicide
Student and/or children are being harmed, neglected, or otherwise abused
Threat of harm to someone else
Court order
Complaints:
In the event that my actions warrant investigation by a supervisor or a complaint
must be filed, Principal Mike Jolley, Northwest Cabarrus High School should be
contacted. Mr. Jolley may be reached via email at [email protected] or
by phone at 704-788-4111.
Acceptance of Terms:
I have read the above and agree to the terms of counseling set forth.
