Unit 2 PPT Factoring Polynomials 15

This document provides instructions on factoring polynomials using various methods: 1. Always look for the greatest common factor (GCF) before using other methods. 2. Factor trinomials of the form ax^2 + bx + c by finding two binomial factors whose product equals the trinomial. 3. Factor polynomials that are the difference of squares using the formula a^2 - b^2 = (a + b)(a - b). 4. Factor perfect square trinomials using the formulas a + 2ab + b^2 = (a + b)^2 and a - 2ab + b^2 = (a - b)^2. 5. Factor polynomials with 4 or more terms

When Factoring: Write the polynomial as
a product.
Steps:
1. Find the GCF of all its terms.
2. Write the polynomial as a product by
factoring out the GCF from all the terms.
- This is done by dividing the original terms of the
polynomial by the GCF.

3. The remaining factors in each term will

form a polynomial.

6c d 12c d 3cd
