I) Example of Water-Tube Boiler A) Horizontal Straight Tube Boiler

Watertube boilers are classified as either horizontal straight tube or bent-tube boilers. Watertube boilers are used for pressures above 150 psi and capacities over 150,000 lb steam per hour, and are almost exclusively used in these high pressure, high capacity applications. Watertube boilers contain drums and tubes, with the tubes external to the drums to interconnect them and contain the heating surface, while the drums store water and steam. Bent-tube watertube boilers have gradually replaced straight-tube boilers for high duty service due to their higher pressure and temperature capabilities.

WATERTUBE BOILER
Watertube boilers may be classified as:
1) Horizontal straight tube.
2) Bent-tube.
For pressure above 150 psi and capacities over 150,000 lb steam per hour,
the water-tube boiler is used almost exclusively. Some watertube boilers are found in the
low-pressure (15 psi) heating field in the smaller size.
Pressure in central station utility plant boilers go as high as 5,000 psi.

watertube boiler is composed of drums and tubes, the tubes always being external to
drum and serving to interconnect them. The drums are used
storage of water and steam. The tubes contain the entire heating surface The boiler
natural water circulation.'

Watertube boilers may be of the straight-tube or bent-tube type. The various

bent-tube boilers, with higher pressure and temperature characteristics, have gradually
replaced the straight-tube boiler for high duty service and new monopolize the power
generation industry.

The horizontal straight tube boilers covers a range of capacity

It has been used until recenthy in
the majority of industrial application, primarily for process
steam, occasionally for heating and sometimes for power genera- tion.
