Difference Between Homologous and Analogous Structure - Major Differences

Homologous structures are similar in morphology, anatomy, genetics and embryology but different in function. They are inherited from a common ancestor and have similar developmental patterns. Analogous structures are superficially similar but anatomically different, and evolve in different species to perform similar functions. The key differences are that homologous structures are inherited from a common ancestor and have similar anatomy and development, while analogous structures evolve separately in unrelated species to carry out similar roles.
