Dear Admissions Counselor:

I have recently applied for entry into the Masters in Educational Leadership through
the University of New England. In 2001 I received my BS in History through
Fitchburg State College in Fitchburg Massachusetts. In January of 2001 I was hired
to teach history in grades 9-12 at Conant High School located in Jaffrey New
Hampshire. From 2001 through 2013 I continued my employment as a classroom
teacher of history with Conant High School. During that time I also fulfilled the role
of student counsel advisor, class advisor and golf coach.
In 2013 I became the athletic director for the Jaffrey/Rindge school district
overseeing athletics both at Conant High School as well as the Jaffrey/Rindge Middle
School. Beginning with the 2014 school year, I also assumed the role of Dean of
Students for Conant High School while continuing my role as Athletic Director.
While employed in these various roles I continued to pursue a graduate degree in
history through Fitchburg State University. Until my role had changed with the
school, I had envisioned teaching history for many years and was working toward
that goal. When my role changed in 2013 I enjoyed the new challenges and became
interested in pursuing a career in educational leadership.
This year my role with the Jaffrey/Rindge School district has changed again.
Beginning with the 2015/2016 school year, the district has decided to add an
assistant principal position at both the middle and high school levels. In May of 2015
I applied for the position of Assistant Principal at Conant High School. The
committee selected me over a number of applicants, basing their decision on a
number of factors. Although I do not hold a masters in leadership, I am an Air Force
veteran and the committee felt that the leadership experience gained in the
service, together with the leadership qualities I had exhibited over the past two
years, made me the best candidate for the position.
In accepting the position I am excited about changing my direction in education and
pursing a Masters in Education Leadership through the University of New England. I
am also looking forward to the challenge of on-line education and believe that my
personal experience with an on-line program will make me a stronger leader and
advocate for 21st century learning.
I feel that my experience in the military, private industry and education has
provided me with the qualities needed to lead in education in these changing times.
I also feel that a quality education through a program within the University of New
England will enhance my leadership qualities and vision.

Respectfully

Richard Simoneau
