Visual Composition

Line & texture


Line: A long, narrow mark or band.
The importance of lines are in the composition, representation, and the visual feel
transference. Lines occur in the combination of horizontal, vertical and diagonal
lines.

Texture: the feel, appearance, or consistency of a surface or a substance


The importance of texture especially in room designs is that it can make a room
unique or make a room pop

Color & Depth (Perspective)


Color: the property possessed by an object of producing different sensations on
the eye as a result of the way the object reflects or emits light.
There are two main reasons why color is important. Color can help tell us
stories visually and it can be used to communicate on an emotional level.

Depth: the distance from the top or surface of something to its bottom.
The importance of depth is that it can be an illusion and help with perspective.

light & Direction


Light: the natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible.
The importance of light is the way it affects color shadow and the visibility of a
design

Direction (motion):a course along which someone or something moves. the


importance of direction is the way it affects light like front light, sidelight and
back light

Mass (visual weight) & Tone


Mass: is a measure of the amount of material in an object, weight is the
gravitational force acting on a body (although for trading purposes it is taken to
mean the same as mass), force is a measure of the interaction between bodies
and load usually means the force exerted on a surface or body.

Tone: This refers to the lightness or darkness of something. This could be a


shade or how dark or light a colour appears. Tones are created by the way light
falls on a 3D object. The parts of the object on which the light is strongest are
called highlights and the darker areas are called shadows.
tone can add definition and depth to a painting or photo

Value
Value: the lightness or darkness of tones or colors. White is the lightest value;
black is the darkest. The value halfway between these extremes is called middle
gray. Space An element of art by which positive and negative areas are defined
or a sense of depth achieved in a work of art. Value really helps to make 3D art
work.

shape (2D) & shape (3D)


Shape 2d: are two dimensional shapes, The shapes are flat

hape 3D: are three dimensional shapes

Space & Balance


Space: a continuous area or expanse that is free, available, or unoccupied.

Balance: is arranging elements so that no one part of a work overpowers, or


seems heavier than any other part. The three different kinds of balance are
symmetrical, asymmetrical, and radial. Symmetrical (or formal) balance is the
most stable, in a visual sense.

Emphasis & Proportion


Emphasis: special importance, value, or prominence given to something.

Proportion: a part, share, or number considered in comparative relation to a whole.


the importance of proportion is that it shows the relation ship of size

Repetition & Unity


Repetition: the action of repeating something that has already been said or
written.

Unity: The state of being united or joined as a whole.

Contrast & Harmony


Contrast: the state of being strikingly different from something else, typically something in
juxtaposition or close association.

Harmony: the state of being strikingly different from something else, typically
something in juxtaposition or close association.

Proximity & Variety


Proximity: nearness in space, time, or relationship

Variety: the quality or state of being different or diverse; the absence


uniformity, sameness, or monotony.
