LAB : COMMAND PROMPT ON WINDOWS

SYSTEM
OBJECTIVES:
The goal of this lab is to give you information and
guidelines regarding the use of command prompt in windows
system. After this laboratory experiment, you will able to:
Familiarize with the know-hows of the command
prompt
Identify circumstances wherein command prompt can
be useful
MATERIALS REQUIRED:
This lab requires the following:
Internet connection
Windows Vista/XP operating system
LAB PREPARATION:
Before the lab begins, the instructor or lab assistant
needs to do the
following:
Verify that internet access is available and that the
computer is fully functional.
ACTIVITY BACKGROUND:
Command Prompt is a very powerful tool that Windows
have but sadly most users ignore it. Thus this leads the
command prompt into obscurity. This tool can do wonders if
only given the chance to be explored; some of its capabilities
includes being able to watch ASCII version of star wars
episode IV with it, create matrix falling code effect, making
folders you cannot delete, shutting down your computer with
giving a command such as because it is tired, know if youre
neighbors are stealing your WiFi connection, know your IP

address and knowing if someone is hacking your computer,

etc. In this laboratory, you will be asked to explore how the
command prompt works and hopefully apply it more often.

Activity: (Time Completion: 30-40

minutes)
Lets start with opening your command prompt in your
system by pressing this shortcut or doing any of the
following:
Windows logo + r +type cmd
Click the start button and look for Command Prompt

1. It is indeed very useful because it can execute a lot of
commands that your system can do. It is like a
treasure box full of wonders that can amaze its users.
2. Getting to know your way around your command
prompt is also similar to getting your way around your
operating system.
3. For me, I think that the command Ipconfig and
anything related to the commands for the internet
connection information is important. Because it helps
the user to grasp whats going on with his connection
since nowadays, it has been one of the essentials of a
computer system.
4. Ipconfig/all command can be used to display the
information necessary for your internet connection.

DISCUSSION:
The goal of this lab is to help the students to familiarize
oneself with the use of command prompt in their system so
that they can use it in certain circumstances. If not, so that as
a user they know that command prompt are not just a tool to

be ignored and it can be powerful with just the right mix of

curiosity and knowledge.

CONCLUSION:
As for the conclusion, command prompt plays an
important role as a part of the Operating system of your
computer. Most of the time, people/users have the tendency
to ignore it and also most of the time they never get to use it.
The tricks shown on the sites proves to be helpful as part of
familiarizing yourself with the many executable commands it
holds.

LAB : SYSTEM IMFORMATION UTILITIES

OBJECTIVES:
The goal of this lab is to be able to use the system
information utility installed in your system. After this
laboratory experiment, you will able to:
Identify how your system utility works
Identify what can be seen inside the said utility
MATERIALS REQUIRED:
This lab requires the following:
Internet connection
Windows Vista/XP operating system

Before the lab begins, the instructor or lab assistant
needs to do the
following:
Verify that internet access is available and that the
computer is fully functional.
ACTIVITY BACKGROUND:

With the introduction of Microsoft's Windows XP, Microsoft

has provided a utiity within the operating system to generate a
system information report of your PC. This utility is called the
Microsoft System Information utility and has been included in

every Microsoft major operating system since Windows XP. A

Microsoft system information report does not contain any
sensitive information such as passwords visited websites, emails
or other usually sensitive data. System Information shows details
about your computer's hardware configuration, computer
components, and software, including drivers. SIW can create a
report file (CSV, HTML, TXT or XML), and you can run it in batch
mode (for Computer Inventory -Software and Hardware Inventory,
Asset Inventory, Software License Management, Security Audit,
Server Configuration Management).

Open System Information by clicking the Start button. In the
search box, type System Information, and then, in the list of
results, click System Information.

CONCLUSION:
As for the conclusion, system information utility is another
important tool to be used and to have in your system. It helps the
user to display detailed specs for motherboard, BIOS, CPU,
devices, memory, video, disk drives, ports, printers, operating
system, installed programs, processes, services, serial numbers
(CD keys), users, open files, system uptime, network, network
shares, as well as real-time monitors for CPU, memory, page file
usage and network traffic. It also displays currently active
network connections, passwords hidden behind asterisks,
installed codecs, and more.
