September Curriculum Overview

Readers Workshop
-

We are working on building stamina


so that we can read with focus for
long periods of time.
We are beginning to use
comprehension strategies to help us
understand the books that we hear
and read.

Writers Workshop
-

We are reviewing counting and writing


numbers to 10.
We are counting to check whether
sets have the same, more, or fewer
objects.
We are identifying and building 2D
and 3D shapes.

Inquiry

We are working on building stamina


so that we can write with focus for
long periods of time.
We are telling a story using pictures,
and beginning to add labels and
sentences to our writing.

Word Work

Math

How can we use our 5 senses to explore


the world?
- We are learning about our 5 senses
and how we can use them to explore
the world around us.
- We are learning how to protect our
eyes and ears.
- Students will have lots of
opportunities for hands-on
exploration and play to explore the
use of their 5 senses.

Religion

We are reviewing the alphabet and


identifying the initial sounds in
words.
We are stretching out words by
saying them slowly and listening for
all of the sounds.
We are learning sight words to help
us read and write fluently:
