Henley

The document discusses scouting a potential filming location in Henley-On-Thames. It notes that the river provides nice aesthetic shots but the busy town centre would make filming tense scenes difficult. Permission would need to be obtained from the town council. Equipment like a camera, batteries, memory card and possibly fake blood are identified. Safety issues like blocking pathways could occur due to large crowds. The location of the sun and lighting conditions should be checked, and interesting shots like nighttime pans along the river considered. Backup batteries and nearby parking and transport are also noted. In the end, the document concludes the location is not ideal due to its public nature and safety hazards, and more suitable isolated locations could better achieve the psychological thriller genre

Look around the location.

Henley-On-Thames town centre
River- although perfect aesthetically- it
does not really fit into my genre
conventions.
Lots of locals particularly in the town
centre which would make it difficult to
film an eerie and tense scene effectively.

Talk to people there, organise filming

permissions.

Permission needed from Henley-OnThames Town Council (Also located in

the Town Hall) as there is likely to be
general public in the background.

Identify the equipment you need to

use.

Nikon Coolpix L840 Camera

Spare batteries
Memory Card
Possibly: Fake blood

Examine and identify any potential

health and safety issues
(e.g. crowd numbers being controlled,
being set up in a sensible location that
does not block access points or that
damages the environment or frightens
livestock, any road/traffic issues etc)

As the area is extremely busy, there is

likely to be large crowd numbers in
terms of the general public, particularly
by the river. Hence, filming could get in
the way and become a health hazard if
there are pavements being blocked as
this would force them to walk on the
road.
Therefore, I need to set-up in a sensible
location as it is opposite a main-road
with heavy traffic. It is however
problematic due to the fact that in order
to get the desired shot it will require me
to be on the pavement- this will require
re-consideration.
As it was a sunny day, when filming I
should go later on in the day so that the
shot is not too bright and still has a

tense, dark and shadowy feel to it.

Adjust the camera settings to the
sunlight outside.

Could do a long-shot along the riverside

when it is slightly darker (and adjust
camera settings) so that it gives the shot
a more disturbing feel to it.
Could do a shot slightly farther away
(wide-shot) from the river, towards the
park/woodlands at night to create
suspense. Similarly a panning shot
would create a tense feel as the
audience would be questioning if
something is going to appear etc.

Check the electricity supply. (For the

majority of exterior locations you will
be using battery power)

Take extra batteries in case the camera

dies and charge prior to this.

Check the nearby car

parking/transport routes

There is a car-park in the town-centre.

Arriva Buses which run every 15

minutes from High Wycombe and
Reading.

Although there are some possible

unique shots available here, this location
is not idea for filming. This is because
the location is very public and the
general feel of the trailer is desolate and
internal isolation which is to be reflected
in the setting.
Also, there are many possible safety
hazards in blocking pathways and
streets, particularly for young children
and the elderly.
Similarly, there are more appropriate
locations which will provide scope for

shots as well as being safe and more
