Assignment 2 Et1 May-Sept 2015

This document contains details of an assignment for an Electrical Technology 1 course, including the programme, course title, semester, student and lecturer details, as well as two questions regarding a parallel plate capacitor and inductor. Question 1 involves determining the capacitance of a parallel plate capacitor, the energy stored, and its charging and discharging voltage over time. Question 2 involves determining the inductance of a coil wrapped around a pencil, the energy stored in the inductor, and its charging and discharging current over time. The student is asked to show their working and draw the relevant curves.

Question 2

Figure 2
a) A student wrap 100 turns of wire, N on a pencil that is 7mm in
diameter, (d=2r) as shown in Figure 2. The pencil is a nonmagnetic
core so has the same permeability as a vacuum, (4 x 10-6 H/m).
Determine the inductance of the coil that is formed.

Figure 3
b) In Figure 3, determine the energy stored in the inductor.
c) In Figure 3, determine the charging and discharging current at the
following time and draw the charging and discharging curve.
