Design of Anaerobic Fuel Digester

This document provides details for designing an anaerobic fuel digester to meet the energy needs of a farm with 30 cows. It calculates the expected electrical load from various appliances to be 9730Wh per day. It then determines that 30 cows producing an average of 50kg of waste per day requiring a digester volume of 24.5 cubic meters. The document estimates construction costs for the digester tank, mixer, biogas storage bag, slurry pump, and natural gas generator to be a total of 34325 LE.

AVERAGE DAILY LOAD DEMAND

The average daily load demand can be calculated from the

above figure, to be 9730Wh/day

Energy content per head =1158.3 BTU/hr

Energy needed equivalent to 10 kwh =34121 BTU/hr

Designing an Anaerobic fuel digester to compensate the waste of 30 cows

with average waste is 50 kg/head per day and a volume of 0.05

m3 /day

50=1500 kg

Total daily weight produced by 30cows =30

3
Total daily volume produced by 30 cow =30 0.05=1 .5 m

Dry matter is assumed to be 15% =1500

Concentration of dry matter in slurry is 13 %

Total Weight of slurry=225/0.13 =1730 kg

Density of slurry is approximately 990 kg/ m

Total Volume of slurry = 1730 / 990 = 1.75

0.15

=225 kg

Assuming retention time of 14 days

m3

Tank Volume = 1.75 *14 = 24.5

Daily Loading rate of Volatile solids = 225* 0.85 = 191.25 kg

Daily loading rate= 191.25 / 24.5 = 7.8 kg/ m

Cost analysis
1) Tank
A tank of 2 m radius and 1.5m high would be sufficient to compensate a volume of
approximately 24.5 m

With an estimated cost of 1700LE for the bricks ,1500 LE for the concrete and 1500
LE for the labor giving a total of 4700 LE

2) Mixer
Electric motor,(mixer ) 1000LE

3) 6m3 Soft Biogas Bag Excellent Mini Food Waste Treatment Biogas Plant 2250 LE
(biogas storage bag ,desulfurizer ,dewater device ,biogas pump ,piping
connections )
4) High head centrifugal slurry pump 6375 LE

5) Natural gas generator 20000LE

Total cost =4700+1000+2250+6375+20000= 34325 LE
