Writers Workshop

Science

In writers workshop we are continuing to work on

our small moment stories and focusing on spicing
up our writing by adding more details, onamonapias,
showing not telling our feelings, adding dialogue and
similes.

Second grade has started a PBL (project based learning)

over insects. The learners were presented a driving
question to guide their discovery. They will be in groups
researching an insects life cycle, basic needs and
habitat. We will be integrating social studies content
such as communities and government. The final product
will be be a choice on how they wish to show their
learning on an ideal insect community.

Suggestions for at home: If you go to the State Fair,

have your student write a small moment about
something that happened at the fair or about
something neat they saw at the Heard Museum.

Ask your kiddos about their new knowledge through

this Project Based Learning unit!

Readers Workshop
In readers workshop we are continuing to work
on being a quality reader, building our stamina,
making text connections, vocabulary strategies,
and independent reading with accountable talk.
Helpful tip: Asks questions beyond the text,
use the helpful handout that can be found in
your childs Husky Binder.

Math
In math we are continuing to work on place value to
1,200. The students are working very hard on
manipulating base ten blocks to show a model of a given
number. The students are working on showing numbers
in multiple ways. These ways include standard form,
written form, expanded form, and model form. A few
other skills we are focusing on is using an open number
line and missing addends.
Helpful Tip: Practice math facts each night and check
out the websites on your teachers weebly
