General Supervisory Practices

Introduction
Below is a risk management plan for physical education. I will follow this plan for all of my
Physical Education classes.
Risk Management Planning Dimensions
-

All physical educators will follow this plan and it they can use it as a reference at all times.
The plan will be available in the main office and the physical education office.
The plan will be a part of orientation for new employees in physical education. It will also be
reviewed at the start of each school year.
Physical Education teachers will be assigned grade levels to teach based on knowledge
and/or certification in certain areas.
o Each physical educator will be certified or licensed to teach physical education and
First Aid/CPR/AED will be up to date.
Physical Education teachers will be assigned to a grade level they are comfortable with
handling. Assistance will be provided for students with severe disabilities.
The school policy for class size will be followed for physical education.
Students will utilize the locker rooms for physical education class. The gym, track, football
field will be used for class and the teacher is responsible for supervising activity in these
areas.
o When students are in different areas, the teacher will coordinate so they can
continually monitor all areas.

Management of Student Behavior/Rules and Regulations

Process for How Rules Will be Taught and Enforced
-

Classroom rules will be taught and enforced. Students will learn the rules at the beginning
of the school year and be re-addressed as needed. Rules for each activity will be posted
prior to class. Facility specific rules will also be posted. Students will sign an agreement
maintaining that they understand and agree to follow the rules.
1. Students must follow safety rules regarding safety equipment for certain activities.
Participation in physical activity involves a risk for injury. Students must participate in all
activities in a safe manner. A student who does not follow safety rules, or does not
participate safely, will be removed from the activity for that day and result in a loss of
points. Repeated violations will result in an office referral.
2. Students will treat other classmates and teachers with respect.
3. Equipment and facilities will be respected and taken care of.
4. Student will support and encourage the learning and effort of others.
5. Students will always give their best.
6. Gum and food will not be chewed or eaten in class due to a choking hazard. Students
will be allowed to bring a water bottle to class and to outdoor facilities but there will be
no drinks in the locker room or on the bus.
4

o Only water is allowed in water bottles.

7. Students are expected to dress appropriately for class. They will need gym shoes, socks,
shorts and or sweats, and a shirt. Outdoor activities may require a coat, hat, or gloves.
Students are responsible for bringing appropriate clothing to class. Failure to dress
appropriately will be handled on a case-by-case basis and be dependent on the activity
being covered in class. A note or email will be sent to the parents of a repeat offender.
Failure to follow these rules will result in a meeting with the physical education instructor
and/or an office referral.
