Mr. Martin/Mr.

Pattersons Class
Week of October 12-16
There are only four days of school for students this week because Monday was Columbus
Day.
A parent conference sign up sheet will be going home soon. Keep a look out for it!
There is not a new Second Step Lesson this week. We completed the first unit, Skills for
Learning. Students will continue to practice focusing attention, listening, using self-talk and
being assertive.

Math: We have reached the half-way point of our first round of Math Club. Groups have
been focused on computation, counting, and estimating on a number line.
During math class we are working on our second unit, Addition and Subtraction of Length
Units. This unit focuses on measuring using the metric system as well as adding and
subtracting. This week we will continue to learn about and centimeters. Students will use
the mark and move forward technique to make a centimeter ruler. We will then practice
measuring items using our centimeter rulers. Students will also discover that there are 100
cm. in a meter, and they will practice measuring with meter sticks and tape measures.

Science: There is no Science as we focus on Social Studies.


Social Studies: We will continue with our Geography unit this week. We will learn the
names and descriptions of different landforms around the world, but focus especially on
those found in Maine. A few examples include: mountain, hill, river, and valley.

due by Friday, October 16:

Math: Lesson 1 Sprint Worksheet - Before, Between, After.


Students should complete the whole sheet. Timing is not
necessary.
