Giulio Caccini was an Italian composer from 1551-1618 who played a role in both the Renaissance and Baroque eras. He wrote the music for the operas Euridice and Il Rapimento Di Cefalo and is considered a founder of opera music. One of his most famous pieces is Amarilli, Mia Bella, which is more repetitive than his other works. An interesting fact is that Caccini also played the harp. The song Amarilli, Mia Bella expresses the singer's love for Amarilli and urges her not to doubt his true and tender love for her.

Amarilli, Mia Bella

Composed by Giulio Caccini

Arranged by Dr. Theodore Baker
Giulio Caccini (October 8, 1551- December 10, 1618) was an Italian
composer who played a large part of both the Renaissance and Baroque
eras. He wrote the music for operas Euridice (1600) and Il Rapimento Di
Cefalo (1600) and is also looked at as one of the founders of opera music.
One of his most famous works, Amarilli, Mia Bella, is a more repetitive
piece, unlike a lot of his other work. An interesting fact about Caccini is that
he played the harp!
Amarilli, mia bella,
Amarilli, my fair one,
non credio del mio cor dolce desio,
canst thou thine heart to doubt eer surrender,
desser tu lamor mio?
doubt of my love, true and tender?
Credilo pur: e se timore tassale,
Do but believe, for should eer fear assail thee,
dubitar non ti vale.
It can never avail thee.
Aprimil petto e vedrai scritto in core:
Ope thou my bosom, and see thy fears reproved;
Amarilli, Amarilli, Amarilli eil mio amore.
Amarilli, Amarilli, Amarilli is my beloved!
