Leader in Me: Habit 5: Seek First to Understand. Then Be Understood.

Listen with your ears, eyes, and heart. Habit 6: Synergize. We read Big Pumpkin
and gave examples from the book of Habits 1-6! Every day the children are
referring back to the habits!
Favorite Halloween Books so far: The
Hallo-Wiener, The Ghosts Dinner,
Even Monsters Need Haircuts, Go
Away, Big Green Monster, The Ugly
Pumpkin, The Squished Pumpkin

TEAM READ
Mondays- Words Their Way intro.
Tuesdays- Read a book and do activities.
Wednesdays- Re-read book and start a
new book.
Thursdays- Read both books and writing.

ELA focus: During our stories, we are referring to sequence of events, characters,
setting, and main ideas. We are listening for transition words and beginning to use
them in our writing. Our upcoming writing prompt for the district is writing a
letter to a character in one of the stories we read about friendship or families.
Our focus will be to have a topic sentence, name one or two events with details, use
some transition words, and have a closing sentence! The children are trying to
remember capital letters and punctuation. We will meet Lips the Fish and Skippy
Frog to help us decode words. Our phonics focus is on word families and rhyming,
endings s, ed and ing, the vowel sound /or/, l blends, and listening for sounds in
different positions of a word.
Math: We are getting more comfortable with number sense by using a chart from 1120 to identify numbers, know one more/ one less/ ten more/ ten less, and solve addition
and subtraction problems. The standards we are covering are 1.NBT.1, 1.OA.5, 1.OA.1, and
1.OA.2. We made a folder today on the iPads for Math Word Problems. Each night your
child should work on solving addition and subtraction problems with these apps. Please
dont forget to have your child go onto IXL for these skills and Xtramath for fluency.

Science: TCI: We are continuing

Unit 1 and starting Lesson 2.
