Battleshipactivity 2

This document provides instructions for a battleship activity where students play a game using linear equations and graphing. Students will each graph 1-3 linear equations on a graph without showing their opponent. They will then take turns guessing points on each other's graphs, saying "hit" if the point is on a line or "miss" if it is not. The goal is to correctly guess all of the opponent's linear equations by the point they have sunk all of their lines.

Battleship Activity

Have students find a partner to play a game of battleship that will help strengthen students
knowledge on graphing and linear equations.
Rules / How to Play:
1. Each player will receive two graphs and is not permitted to look at their opponents
graph.
2. Players will choose 1-3 linear equations and graph them on the graph paper provided
(make sure that the lines are hitting intersections on the graph).
3. The player will then write down the equation of the lines they have drawn (Ex. y = x).
4. Each player will take turns guessing points on the graph (Ex. (2,1)).
5. If an opponent guesses a point that is in your line, you must let them know by saying
hit. If it does not say miss.
6. On one graph mark your lines and your opponent's guesses. On a second graph mark
your guesses as you attempt to find their lines.
7. If you think you know the equation of your opponents line, guess the line by saying
its corresponding equation. Note: this counts as a turn.
8. If your opponent names one of your equations, let them know by saying you have
sunk my linear equation.
9. Continue until all of one players lines have been sunk.
