A Report On Feasibilities of Using Plasma As A High Lift Device

This document is a report on the feasibility of using plasma as a high lift device for aircraft. It discusses using plasma to minimize the need for mechanical flaps and slats, which increase drag. Plasma could provide dynamic control of lift by varying the electric field and has a quick response time, less weight than mechanical devices. It explores using plasma flow control and corona discharge for high lift applications. The report references several other papers on plasma drag reduction, separation control using dielectric barrier discharge actuators, and optimizing aerodynamic plasma actuators.

Abstract-Recently plasma has received

attraction from various industries, as a
source of propulsion in interplanetary
rockets and also as a means of delaying or
even eliminating flow separation in aircrafts.
In this paper we study the feasibilities of
using plasma as a source of high lift devices
to minimize the use of flaps and slats which
are mechanical devices which in turn
increase the profile drag of the aircraft and
also imposes structural constraints.
Advantages of cold plasma as a source of
high lift devices includes dynamic control of
lift produced by the aircraft by varying the
Electric field , Quick response time of the
actuators, less weight and many more which
are yet to be explored.
Keywords-Plasma flow control, High lift devices,
Corona discharge ,Electrostatic attraction
