Problem 1:
NutraFlakes cereal is to be packaged with a mean of 10 ounces plus or
minus 0.1 ounces. Using the data in the table given below, determine the
standard deviation of the 20 weights and then determine the capability of
the process.
Problem 2:
A process that is considered in control measures liquid in ounces. Below
are the last 12 samples taken. The sample size = 4.
Problem 3:
Your supervisor, Lisa Lehmann, has asked that you report on the output of
a machine on the factory floor. This machine is supposed to be producing
optical lenses with a mean weight of 50 grams and a range of 3.5 grams.
The following table contains the data for 10 samples, each with 6
observations per sample, taken during the past 3 hours:
Day
Number of Typos
Monday
Tuesday
Wednesday
Thursday
Friday
Saturday
Problem 5:
The number of defective sinks in each of 25 samples taken from a process
which produces ceramic sinks is shown in the following table. 200 units
were included in each sample. Construct a control chart with 99.73%
confidence limits. Plot the sample results on the chart. Is the process in
control? If not, eliminate the sample data associated with any outliers and
recompute the control limits. Does the revised chart reflect a process that is
in control?
Problem 6: Answer the 3 questions at the end of the case study: Cecil Rice
Export (Alexandria, Egypt), located in the Chapter 10 folder on
Blackboard.
