Lenin Notes

War communism was the economic system implemented in Soviet Russia from 1918 to 1921 during the Russian Civil War. It involved state ownership of industry, agriculture, trade, and imposed strict control of the economy and society. Lenin was forced to adopt this harsh system due to Russia's poor economic state following World War I and the civil war, though it faced much opposition. By 1921, war communism had led to economic collapse, famine, and widespread unrest. Lenin introduced the New Economic Policy as a replacement to liberalize some economic controls and allow limited private enterprise.
