Classroom Management
Philosophy
Strive to create a safe, enriching, and positive environment for my
students. I want them to be comfortable with me and each other. If my
students are engaged and everyone is kind towards one another, then I
believe that my students will be successful.
Expectations
- Come to class prepared, ready, and willing to listen
- To exhibit respects for self, others, and classroom
- To engage and participate in classroom activities
- To strive to do their best
I will convey expectations by modeling examples, holding students
responsible for their actions, posting reminders around the classroom,
by teaching expectations of appropriate behavior, and by providing
reinforcement.
Pre-School Checklist
- Stock necessary supplies
- Review available student information
- Create a scope and sequence and basic lesson plans
- Decorate and organize the classroom to foster a successful
environment

Rules
Use appropriate volumes when speaking
Show respect for self and others
Treat others how you would like to be treated

Hierarchy for Rule Infractions

1. Warning
2. Loss of a token on their reward system
3. Move to an isolated area or island if they are having a bad day
4. Move child to a timeout area
5. Student-teacher timeout conference. Fill out contract: What did I
do, what I could have done, and what will I do next time.
6. Principal/Removal from class
Motivational Strategies

What Strategies Will I Use To:
Develop a Positive Classroom Management Culture and Climate
- I will give rewards for good behavior
- Post student work on the wall
Build a Community in the Classroom
- Group work
- Class meetings
Communicate with Parents and Guardians
- Be positive, do not only contact them to discuss negatives
- Class news letters or blogs
- Emails and websites
Teach Self-Discipline and Cooperation
- Have a self-monitoring system ex. Token economy
- Ask students to set personal goals that they will work towards

Teach Rules and Procedures

- Directly Teach the Rules
- Model
- Post the rules
- Practice the rules
- Implement the rules
Deal with Individual Students and Their Differences
- Implement strategies and teach each individual in order to cater
to the unique personality and individual circumstances that
effect the students in the classroom.
Prevent Discipline Problems
- Make sure expectations are clear
- Expect, teach, and reinforce good behavior
- Reward good behaviors
Support my Discipline Program
- Visual, verbal, and tactile cues
- Find what works for individuals
- Observe students and look for antecedents and triggers.
Intervene immediately after the trigger.
- Reward good behavior
- Reactions should include a sense of humor and caring for each
child.
- One should look at situations through different perspectives.
- Walk children through the problem and have them think of a way
to prevent it from happening again.
Correct Discipline Problems
- Zero tolerance- hitting and name calling
- One could model appropriate behaviors
- Reason with the children ex. How would you feel if?
- Social stories- have student help write the story
- Direct teaching of the skill (replacement behaviors)
- Conflict resolution- have a mediator to talk through the problem.
- Class discussions
- Intervention plans- follow each students BIP and incorporate
them into the classroom.
- Actively model expected student behavior by exhibiting
appropriate behavior while at school (ideally in other public
places too)
Provide a Safe Classroom
- Have a plan in place for emergencies.

Everybody sits in his or her own space (island).

Learn proper restraint techniques to safely use in emergency
situations
Wear appropriate clothing
Do not put fragile or possibly dangerous items in the classroom
where a student could readily access them at all times ex.
Scissors, glass jars, etc.
Treat children with respect and have a clam, cool temper. This
establishes teacher control of the classroom.
Set up appropriate expectations
Follow each individuals BIP
