NAME: Power Paths.
TEK:

Force, motion, and energy. The student knows that energy exists in many forms and can be
observed in cycles, patterns, and systems. The student is expected to:
(A) differentiate among forms of energy, including mechanical, sound, electrical, light, and
heat/thermal;
(B) differentiate between conductors and insulators;
(C) demonstrate that electricity travels in a closed path, creating an electrical circuit, and explore
an electromagnetic field; and
(D) design an experiment to test the effect of force on an object such as a push or a pull, gravity,
friction, or magnetism.

APPROX. TIME: 30 minutes to teach lesson

MATERIALS: Power Paths worksheet, small light bulbs, batteries, switches,


cords to connect/conduct electricity.
HOOK: Ask a question related to the lesson plan; How are the light bulbs able to
turn on?
OBJECTIVE: SWBAT understand and demonstrate that electricity travels in a
closed path, creating an electrical circuit.
RELEVANCY: Students should know how electricity works, and how it can be
related or similar to their environment, such as circuits in their houses or electronics that
work with batteries.
INSTRUCTIONAL INPUT: Teach students terms, how to create a closed and
open circuit, and how to operate it.
MODELING: Explain the procedure and show the students what is the expected
result.
GUIDED PRACTICE: Work with students through the experiment, answer their
questions, and help them answering the worksheet.
INDEPENDENT PRACTICE: Students would work, and try the experiment by
themselves for a few minutes so they would understand how the experiment works.

ASSESSMENT: The students would be divided into groups, and each group
would receive a kit with the materials needed. Then, together we would go over the
experiment, and they would have some time to work by themselves, until is time to
finished everything.
CLOSURE: Ask students about the experiment, and have them explain in their
own words.
SPONGE: Have the groups write a summary about the experiment; what they
did, what happened, what was the experiment about, etc.
