group research assignments and walk them through the process of emailing this assignment to
me. This is not only fun for them, but it is an essential learning skill that will be needed in life. I
would also make sure that I contact parents on a regular basis to keep them current on their
childs grades.
Portals Or Applications: Portals and applications have recently become a more popular way of
communication with technology in the classroom. This is a technology that can be accessed
through a website on the internet or by a phone. This communication tool is used to give parents
and students real time access to their grades (Ramasubbu, 2015). Teachers can post grades,
comments, and reminders to these applications in order for parents and students to view them at
any time of the day. This is important in creating a proactive method of keeping adequate grades
in class. Although the grading system is much different in younger grades like K-5, I would still
be able to use this tool to keep parents informed on their childs progress. These applications can
be used to display scanned files of their childs art work, track the students daily behaviors, and
post important strengths and weaknesses that should be brought to the parents attention.
Video Conferencing: Video conferencing is now used as a tool of communication in multiple
ways in the classroom. One way is that it can be used to bring the global community into the
classroom for communication to students. Students can now learn beyond the classroom walls by
being able to video conference with other student, other teacher, and special guests in other
places to learn about different culture and experiences. It is also a great way for mentoring and
tutor by people that would otherwise be hard to reach. Another way that it can be used is my
communication between parents and teachers. Face to face parent teacher conferences can now
be a thing of a past as video conferencing provides an easier way for the teacher and parent to
talk. Many times parents and teachers have to work out and change their entire schedule in order
to sit down and discuss the student, but video conferencing is the perfect solution for this. For
my students of K-5, I would also use video conferencing as a way of allowing the parents to
monitor what their child is doing in the classroom. Sometimes that parent is not able to come in
and observe their childs daily activities and interactions, but video conferencing can allow for
this to happen without the parent having to physically come into the class.
Communication Internet Security and Safety
With easy access to internet and using it as a tool of communication within the
classroom, it is important that students learn internet security and safety. The internet is open of
computer hackers, viruses, and strangers with bad intentions. With it being such an open source,
it is very easy for students to become distracted and stray away from the task at hand. It is
important that teachers stay proactive when it comes to internet security (DeFranco, 2011).
Working with students in K-5 this is especially important as they can easily be drawn in to
colorful ads or wrong links. I plan on teaching these students about internet safety guiding them
in research based lesson where they can find tips on how to be safe when they are on the web.
Concluding Paragraph
In conclusion, technology now plays an important role in enhancing communication between
teachers, parents, and students. There are many tools of technology that can help to do this. One
of these tools is email. Email helps to provide a fast and open line of communication between
parents, teachers, and students. Another tool is online student portals and applications. These
portals allow for parents and students to see grades in real time and keep up with the grading
system of the teacher. The final tool is video conferencing. Video conferencing gives the
opportunity to bring the global community into the classroom in order to create a diverse
learning atmosphere. All of these tools together can benefit the classroom learning experience
and enhance communication.
