Standards: [Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, Section 126.42. Digital Art and
Animation].
(6) Technology operations and concepts. The student demonstrates a sound understanding
of technology concepts, systems, and operations. The student is expected to:
(A) Demonstrate knowledge and appropriate use of operating systems, software
applications, and communication and networking components;
(B) Make decisions regarding the selection and use of software and Internet resources;
(C) make necessary adjustments regarding compatibility issues with digital file formats,
importing and exporting data, and cross-platform compatibility; and
(D) Read, use, and develop technical documentation.

9 Females 8 Males
40% African-American, 20% Cuban, and Pilipino
Each student receives free or reduced rate lunch.
Technology Inclusion:
Computers- control the Whiteboard and create PowerPoints

Whiteboard- projector for view of the presentations

VIII. Prior Knowledge:


Students should be able to demonstrate knowledge of Critical thinking and decision
making for digital typography, appropriate use of digital photography, and videography
concepts.
Lesson Placement in the Unit: This is lesson _11_ of _19_.
IX.

Procedures:
1. Lesson Introduction / Anticipatory Set:
The teacher will wait for the students to settle down. Students will watch a YouTube
clip. The teacher will show a few bad and good examples of good and appropriate
PowerPoint animation.
2. Direct Instruction:
The class will watch this YouTube clip- https://youtu.be/dPZapnMiAmk. The
instructor gives example of bad and good PowerPoint content. The teacher will go on
to ask if anyone has ever used Powtoon. Students will be introduced to
Powtoon.com/edu, which is a website that helps create animated presentations. The
teacher will distribute handout with the instructions for the assignment to the students.
3. Student Interaction with lesson content / Guided Practice:
Students are required to make a PowerPoint that covers a basic subject to lower grade
students (alphabet, number, animals, etc.). This presentation must include animation.
For extra credit students will include animation from Powtoon. Each slide must be
appropriate to the audience and topic.
Describe how students will participate and interact with the lesson content.
4. Independent Practice:
This is an independent project. Students will create and present their PowerPoints on
Animations Education
5. Review / Closure:
Before dismissal students can ask questions.
6. Presentations:
Students will present on Animation Education Day. Students will present their animate
PowerPoint. Students will, Powtoon for extra credit. Animation must be relavent to

relevant to what they are presenting.

Evaluation/Assessment:
1. Students will be graded on following directions
2. PowerPoint presentation- animation, appropriateness, video clip tha will be shared on
the class website for parent/ faculity voting on the best educational presentation.

XI.

Risk Analysis: Potential areas of risk include technology malfunctions. The teacher
will troubleshoot if the technology is not working. Finally, if nothing works, call the IT
department for assistance. Students not saving their work is a big threat to completion of
their presentation. There is also the risk of students showing inappropriate content. Abcent
students will need to meet with the teacher for futher instruction.
