Professional Interview:

a. Please describe the field of electrical engineering, in general.


Electrical engineering is a field of engineering that generally deals with the study and application
of electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism.
Electrical engineers work on wide range of components, device and system, from tiny
microchips to huge power station generators.
b. What is your current job title? I owned a owner shop and shut it an year ago ..it was car repair
shop and before owning a shop, I used to work at Intel.
c. Please describe your particular job and duties.
When I worked at Intel as an electrical engineer..I help them with troubleshooting and repairing
and making modifications.then I worked as a regional manager where I hired engineers and
trained them to help the customers worldwide to keep their machine up and help them with
problems on repairing and fixing
d. What is your average work schedule?
I worked from Monday to Friday, 8 to 5. And I had a lot of travel..I was traveling for at least
about 3~4 months out a year.
e. Starting with high school, describe your educational background chronologically.
I graduated high school in Gunsan, Korea and then went to college in California where I majored
in electrical engineering. It was difficult to study abroad both culturally and linguistically and at
first while living at Silicon Valley, I chose engineering not because I liked it but I heard that the
future was good in this field. But I came to like it, especially when I started to study software
while working at the company.
f. If you had it to do over, related to your career or education, would you do anything differently?
I think I chose the right path and have done my best..so I wouldnt do anything differently even
if Im given a chance again.
g. What advice would you give to me as someone interested in pursuing a career path similar to
yours?
When I was working at Intel for a long time, I wasnt satisfied at being in one position but took a
challenge to improve myselfI think studying software beyond hardware was the best choice
that I made to get a better future at Silicon Valley where there were rapid changes. So what I
want to tell you is that improving yourself and studying is the easiest way to adapt in a rapidly
changing future.
Personal Reflection:
a. What surprised you the most about the interview?
I was surprised that there can various path that you can take. Like my interviewee, I want
to experience and learn many things and then find my true goal.
b. What was the most important piece of information that you learned from the interview?
The most important information I learned was that you get to go to work in other places
also because Im kind of a person that gets tired of something in short time, so I think
traveling other places will fit me well.
c. How has this interview influenced your feelings about your future career?

Still my dream is to become a petroleum/chemical engineer but this interview gave me a


chance to think about other field of engineering also.
d. How has this interview changed or confirmed you plans regarding your future career?
It didnt change my plans much but gave a little possibility to think again about choosing
my career because I was interested at the works he did while working at Intel.
e. What is the next step for you to pursue your plans? Who do you need to talk to? What
information do you need?
My next step is to attend the university and major in petroleum/chemical engineering. I
need to talk to a person who is working as a petroleum engineer in a company, and I
want to ask him or her about what they do at work.
