Introduction
SURVEYS
As surveys are a good method of keeping track of different subjects, it might be easy to
know and learn what questions are better to ask than other ones. Surveys can help us,
businesses, to understand why customers act the way they act as well as to make us
understand why they do certain things. These surveys are an important tool to do some
market research. This information is handy for all businesses as surveys can have a very
big range of subjects, in fact subjects can be made about almost everything.
SOCIAL MEDIA
As we live in a world where the technology is developing at an unknown pace, we have
chosen to chose for the subject Social Media. The social media are almost everywhere
present in our society. The links are made very easily and are used in various places.
People can go shopping and get a reduction when they check in, in the shop of they are at
that moment. For the shop manager, this means extra advertising and rewards that certain
customer therefore with a reduction. You see, social media is conquering our territories.
RESULTS
The results of the survey will be discussed in this document. Some graphs will show the
answers of the interviewees. To be able to go with this train of thought we know that
pictures give more information than a thousand words. Therefore, we have inserted the
graphs in this document. A list with the answers on this survey will be available on my
website.
I hope you enjoy reading this report and would appreciate all comments.

THE SURVEY
The survey
In this survey we have asked to identify the surveyed person by sex and age. Next to that
we have asked if they used Facebook and on which devices. Other social media were asked
as well. To end we have asked to them what they were thinking of the social media and if
school should use social media (more).
The questions
To identify our customers, we have chosen to
start by asking the age of the person that is doing
the survey. Because of this question, we can
conclude that 53 percent of the interviewees are
in the age category between 20 and 25.
Every participant was a student. This we can say
as the result on the question Are you a student?
The sex of the participants of this survey was
almost equal to both sexes. 17 of the 32 students
were male, 15 were female.
Each student had a computer and each student
was in the possession of a Facebook account.
This was quite logical because this survey was
only posted on Facebook. If we have to make
another survey than we will keep in mind to not
only ask to fill in this survey using Facebook but
also by sending mails to these students and also
teachers.

THE SURVEY
As it might be interesting to know what attracts our participants to Facebook the
following graph will show you what does attract them the most.
Further more, we asked our
participants what attracted
them to use Facebook on other
devices than on Facebook.
There we got the answer that
59% uses social media on their
portable devices because each
social media network now has a
certain app for iPhone and all
other sorts of smartphones. 63

percent answered that these
apps are very easy to use and this makes them very popular. Following, we have found out
that 41 percent of the participants to this survey use Facebook to really chat with friends
and to keep contact with friends using this way in stead of sending phone messages. The
half of the participants use Facebook to chat with friends. The other half of the group has a
Facebook account to check the newsfeed of friends and family.

Facebook also for school

Of all the participants, 91%

THE SURVEY
To end, the last two questions of this survey were about what actually attracts the younger
generation to these social media. Of all the answers we found out that most of the users
use this to stay connected with friends and family everywhere in the world. These media
channels give us the opportunity to do this. Next to that, users of Facebook also use
Facebook because they like to share pictures with friends, they like to see the pictures of
their friends and to comment on them. Fact is that in fact there are still plenty of other
social media channels with which you can also post or like pictures. Some examples are
Instagram and Pinterest. We learned that these social media that are mentioned are in fact
the most popular ones as there are no other social media channels mentioned using the
Other: option button.
Next to that, 6 on 10 people want our University College to be more active on the social
media. One of the answers describes very clearly why they want this:
Yes, school should use more social media because the world is becoming a global village and
if they wouldnt use these social media, school would lose its popularity.

CONCLUSION
Conclusion
During this project I have learned that composing a survey is not that easy. Your questions
have to be thought through and have to be related to each other. Asking open questions is
in fact difficult to work with after you have received the results. Now it was still possible
to do, but when you have a survey with more than 1000 responses, it is very difficult to
make a conclusion on open questions.
Closed questions, which are questions where the answer are already mentioned using
multiple choice points are more handy to make a conclusion with. These answers can be
used to make graphs in a very easy way.
Some questions asked in this survey all have the same answer, read 100% same answer
being Yes, I have a computer. and Yes, I have a Facebook account.. This is normal
because I only posted the survey on Facebook. In fact these were unnecessary questions
though. It would be good questions if the survey was done using oral interviews,
questionnaires on paper, on mail and on Facebook. Then we could see where people
reacted on the most and which channel was in fact the best channel to make a next survey
with.
To conclude I can say that I have learned what the difficulties are of composing a survey.
Which questions youd better not ask etc.
This assignment has learned me the basics and gave me insight in the world of market
research and one of their most important information sources: surveys.
