Reflection

The document reflects on a national day party held at a school for young children. The author observes that the children became bored during long performance shows at the party. As the children's attention spans are typically only 30 minutes for their age, the performances went beyond their attention limits and lacked engagement. The shows could have been more educational and engaging for the children if they were shorter, included less repetition, and directly involved and addressed the children rather than just being performances for others.

Reflection
During my last day of observation, the school held a party for the national
day. The children participated in different shows such as national dances.
In my opinion, the party was not a success and this is because the
children were bored and wanted to do something else rather than
watching the shows which were meant for them.
The kindergarten aged children attention span is for no more than thirty
minutes (Laura, 2011). The children were never quiet and did not want to
watch the shows that were being held on the stage. Also, the children
were not engaged to the shows even when they were participating in
them they were looking bored and that is because the shows were only
done for the purpose of the party and there was no benefit to the children
from them.
The shows could have used to support the educational process if they
were shorter and had less repetition because repetition made the children
less engaged. For example, instead of making the children act only to a
song they could have talked about the traditional games they were acting
about. Additionally, the school should have grabbed childrens attention
by making the party about them, for them and from them.
