classroom. She does not have an epi-pen but if she comes into
contact with any nut products please notify Mr. Sinclair , the
office and her parents.

**When attendance is done we give the attendance folder to
our messenger of the week, Keanu.

instructions
BLOCK A
P.O.W Spelling words
Materials for lesson: Spelling word flip chart, P.O.W folder,
P.O.W Worksheets, pointing stick, pen, spelling word
definitions sheet (attached to this paper)
On Wednesdays we introduce the students to their new
spelling words. New spelling words are arranged on our blue
flip chart (located in front of our whiteboard, on the right hand
side of our teacher chair). Students are aware of the system,
and can be asked upon for help.
Instructions:
Turn the flip chart over to display the new words. Redirect
students to face the chart.
Go through words. There are 3 separate groups for spelling
words and three separate categories for each group.
THEME WORDS: The first top four words for each group are the
theme words for the week. We are finishing up our structures
unit and are focusing on bridges. Go through theme words for
all 3 groups, ask students for their help in defining the word
(see attachment for the definitions I made). We are
encouraging them to define it.
SPELLING WORDS: The next five words for each group are the
spelling pattern words for the week. Ask the students if they
know what the spelling pattern is for the week (they usually
tap their nose to show they know). Read the words out loud as
a class.
SIGHT WORDS: The last three words are all the same across
the board; students will just read this parts out loud.
When we are done going through the words get our paper
people: Muhsin and Joana to hand out the P.O.W folders
(located in green bin) and P.O.W worksheet.
Students will then go to their desk, put their planners away
and have their chair down. PLEASE MOVE SPELLING CHART TO
THE MIDDLE OF THE CARPET SO ALL STUDENTS CAN WRITE THE
WORDS DOWN FROM THEIR DESK. Some students choose to
copy from the round table or carpet.
Once students are done they will come to a teacher and get
their words checked. Once their spelling words have been
approved they can put their words into their mail tins (tins
along the window) and read a book until 9:30.
At 9:30 students will have to put their P.O.W folders aside and
those who are not finished writing the words down will have to
stay in during recess.
By 9:30 please get students to line up at the door to head to
Mrs. Mckie`s room. You will need your Block B instructions and
materials
Force: bridges have pull and push forces working with and
against them
Drawbridge: a bridge that is raised or moved to allow
passengers underneath it.
Support: cable wires help support a suspension bridge
Group C:
Suspension bridge: a bridge in which the weight of the deck is
supported by cables suspended from larger cables that run
between towers and are anchored in supports at each end.
Reinforce: to strengthen with some added piece, support, or
material.
Tension: A force tending to stretch or elongate something.
Bridges must be able to withstand both tension and compression
forces.
Compression: A force that tends to shorten or squeeze
something, decreasing its volume.
*spelling pattern words and sight words should be familiar
*bell does not ring at the end of the day, you can dismiss
students from the outside door at 2:45
-please make sure all students go with an adult
(Michaella, Max. M, Keanu, Andrea all go to YMCA on their
own)
