Newsletter 1016

1) Students in Room 202 at St. Viator School are finishing units in reading and math. In reading, they are learning about words ending in "er" and "ed", and in math they are wrapping up Chapter 2 on subtraction. 2) The class recently enjoyed doing apple-themed activities in science like tasting, math problems, and crafts. 3) In writing, students have been creating their own superheroes and superpowers to publish in a classroom book.

First Grade St. Viator School

What We Are Learning in Room 202!


Reading Students are finishing up Unit 3. This week, we will be
practicing how to read poetry and learning about words that end with er
and ed.
Math We are wrapping up Chapter 2. Students worked on taking apart a
number to create subtraction sentences. They also created Halloween
pictures using pattern blocks. We will be reviewing and taking our Chapter
test this week.
Science- We had a wonderful time doing our Apple Centers this week.
Students did apple tasting, apple math, apple word sorts, and apple crafts!
It was apple-rific! Thanks so much to our parent volunteers!
Writing- Students have been working so hard to create a classroom
book that will be published and sent back to us! Each student made up
their own superhero and superpower. They have worked incredibly hard,
creating rough drafts, editing, and will be publishing this week!

Homework

October 21- Feast Day of St. Viator. All School Mass at 9:30
a.m. All are welcome!
October 22- October Book Reports are due!
October 22- Field Trip Permission slips are due!
October 26-30- Red Ribbon Week
October 30- School Halloween Party. 6:30pm. There will
also be a Haunted House the weekend of October 22 and
October 30 in the gym.

As the weather cools, please make sure that your students

initials.
October 21 is the Feast Day of St. Viator. All families are
welcome to join an all-school mass at 9:30 a.m.
This year, students in grades 1-8 will also be allowed to dress
up for Halloween! We will be celebrating Halloween on
Friday, October 30. Students may wear their orange and
black outfits in the morning and bring their costumes to
change into after lunch for our party and Costume Contest!
More information will go out this week!
On November 12, we will be taking a field trip to see The
Magic Tree House: A Night in New Orleans at the
Apollo Theater! We have been listening to jazz music
to prepare!
