Thrombus Related To Blood Clots: Thrombophlebitis

Thrombophlebitis is inflammation of the veins caused by a blood clot, which can occur superficially or deep within the body, most often in the legs. Symptoms include pain, redness, swelling and fever in the affected area. Deep clots are more serious as they can break off and travel to the lungs, while superficial clots typically remain near the skin surface. Risk factors include prolonged sitting, IV sites, cancer, blood clotting disorders and strokes. Treatment focuses on staying active, elevating legs, applying warm compresses, and using medications like blood thinners, NSAIDs and salicylates.
