Definition of Giftedness:
Students, children, or youth who give evidence of high
achievement capability in areas such as intellectual, creative,
artistic, or leadership capacity, or in specific academic fields, and
who need services and activities not ordinarily provided by the
school in order to fully develop those capabilities.

General Characteristics:
The characteristics generated from these studies were not
representative of gifted individuals as a whole but, rather, reflected the
characteristics of gifted individuals from advantaged environments.

Prevalence:
The prevalence estimates are highly variable. In the 1950s

2-3% of the total general population was considered gifted.


Currently, because of differentiated views among professionals,
3-25% of the students in the school population may be identified
as gifted, creative, talented.

Teaching Strategies:

Develop learning activities related to His/her interests


allow the child to experiment with language
give them highly engaging learning experiences
find ways to further develop their talents, provide

opportunities for enrichment


require sophisticated forms of thinking and problem solving
work with the community to make sure that there are
enrichment & acceleration activities available for these students
always be searching for ways to best instruct these students
give them appropriate breathing room
encourage involvement with peers who have similar interest
secondary education give them opportunities to deal with
real problems and develop actual products, be inclusive
encourage participation in competitive activities
always push them to do their best.
