SistineChapelceilingexplorednewwaysofart,encountereddifficultchallenges,andin
exchange,wenowhaveoneofthemostfamouspaintingsintheworld.
Michelangelospaintedexplorednewwaysofartbecauseitbroughtalotofcontroversy
towardsthepublic.TheItalianRenaissanceplaysahugeroleinthis.TheItalianRenaissance
wasatimeperiodfromthe14thcenturytothe16thcenturywhentimeschangedfrommedieval
timesfromearlymoderntimes.ItwasatimewhenItaliansstartedtochangethewaytheythink

BeforepaintingtheSistineChapelceiling,Michelangelowasasculptor.Michelangelo
oncesaidabouthissculptures,IsawtheangelinthemarbleandcarveduntilIsethimfree.

Althoughhewasasculptor,PopeJuliusIIinsistedthathe
paintedtheSistineChapelceiling.
Atfirst,Michelangelodeclined,tellingPopeJuliusIIthathe
wasasculptorandnotapainter.ButMichelangelowasfinallyconvincedtodothejob.While
paintingtheSistineChapel.Michelangeloencountereddifficultchallengeswhilepaintingthe
SistineChapellikealotofuncomfortnessandpain.Tostart,hehashardlyeverpaintedbefore
andPopeJuliuswantedhimtopaintona2000squarefootcurvedceiling.Michelangelowasin
suchagonythathewroteapoemaboutallthepainheendured.Hewritesthathisspinewasin
painfrombendingover.Hesimplywasnothappyandheknewthathewasnotintherightplace.
Heknewthiswasnthistruepassionandhewasnotapainter.Hehadtodealwiththistorturous
taskforfouryears,untiltheceilingwasfinallyfinished,andhewasfreefromtheSistine
Chapel.
AlthoughMichelangeloenduredsomuchdiscomfortandpain,weseehimtodayasa
geniusforhiswork.HisworkintheSistineChapelisabsolutelybreathtaking.Thousandsof
peoplevisitthechapeljusttoseehisworkofart.ProfessorsandArtHistoriansarestilltryingto
uncoverthetruemeaningof

.TheSistinechapelCeilingisknownasthe
mosticonicmasterpiecesoftheItalianRenaissance.Heisatruegeniusandwehavethechapel
ceilingtothankforshowinghishardwork.Inexchangeforhishappiness,wenowhavea
masterpiecethatwillliveoninhistoryforever.Hesacrificedhishappinessforthispieceandit
haschangedtheworldofartforthebetterandhecreatedoneofthemostfamouspaintingsinall
ofhistory.
