Foundation: The Structure, That Transmits The Load of The Building To The Soil

Strip foundations are used for buildings where the soil has good load-bearing capacity, with key dimensions similar for concrete and timber cavity walls. Pad foundations support individual or groups of columns and spread the load over an area determined by soil bearing pressure. Grillage foundations use layers of beams at right angles to disperse heavy point loads across acceptable soil pressure, while mat foundations are thick slabs supporting an entire structure to distribute weight widely in poor soil conditions.

Foundation: The structure, that transmits the load of the building to the soil

Strip foundation: Strip foundations are used where the soil is of good bearing
capacity.
The key sizes of a strip foundation for concrete cavity wall construction and
timber frame cavity wall construction are similar.
Pad Foundation: Pad foundations are used to support individual or multiple
columns, spreading the load to the ground below. They are generally square or
rectangular in plan, with the plan area being determined by the permissible
bearing pressure of the soil.
Grillage foundation: Grillage foundations consist of a number of layers of beams
usually laid at right angles to each other and used to disperse heavy point loads
from the superstructure to an acceptable ground bearing pressure.
Mat foundation: A continuous thick-slab foundation supporting an entire
structure. This type of foundation may be thickened or have holes in
some areas and is typically used to distribute a building's weight over as wide
an area as possible, especially if soil conditions are poor.
