FIDS stands for Flight Information Display System. It processes flight information from databases and displays it on screens around the airport terminal to provide passengers with relevant information. An essential function of FIDS is to display real-time flight information, ensure no downtime, and efficiently convert data for display anywhere. It also helps with wayfinding, displays information in multiple languages, and provides walking distances. FIDS aims to keep people well informed with accurate and up-to-date flight information tailored to their situation.

FIDS

What FIDS means

FIDS stands for Flight Information Display System.

This system processes flight information from

passenger related, airport related, or commercial
related databases into relevant information.

That info is ready to be shown at any display at any

location.

A Flight Information Display System covers everything that has

to do with the display of flight information inside and often
also outside the airport terminal.
The most visible part of a FIDS are of course the digital screens
that you will find all around the airport terminal. From overview
screens in the arrival & departure hall and screens above the
check-in counters to screens at the gates and baggage belts.
Ideally, every place where a passenger is expected to make a
decision or to look for information would need to have one of
more screens.

So, for an airport its crucial that

people get well informed with flight
information that is both accurate and
up-to-date. Also the information should
be adapted to the situation so that the
right people get the right information.
Information behind the security area
for instance must be different from the
information in the departure hall.

Each line on an FIDS indicates a different flight

number accompanied by:

The airline name/logo and/or its IATA or ICAO airline designator

The city of origin or destination, and any intermediate points

The expected arrival or departure time and/or the updated time

(reflecting any delays)

The gate number

The check-in counter numbers or the name of the airline handling

The check-in

The status of the flight, such as "Landed", "Delayed", "Boarding", etc.
