Previewing the Week Nov. 7-11, 2011


Math Students will start a new unit on Multiplication and Division. The aca-

demic standards that will be covered will include using diagrams and equations to solve
problems. Students will also use strategies that include rounding and compatible numbers to estimate solutions of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems.
We will also be taking a district CDB on Thursday over Place Value and Fraction concepts.

CMP Math Next week we will be comparing fractions, finding equivalent


fractions, and putting fractions on a number line. We will also be taking a district CDB
on Thursday over place value and fraction concepts.

Social Studies

Students will identify and analyze the causes and effects


of events prior to and during the American Revolution. Students will identify the
founding fathers and patriot heroes.

Science

- Students will demonstrate that light travels in straight lines until it


strikes an object or travels though an object. They will also demonstrate that light can
be refracted or bent, such as a pencil in a glass of water. Projects due 11/8/11.

Reading Language Arts We will continue to sequence events and


monitor and clarify while working in our guided reading groups . We will also work with
common and proper nouns and practice capitalizing proper nouns in our writing. Our
vocabulary words this week will contain the suffix -able. When -able is added to the
end of a word it means "able to be". Glued vocabulary is due on Friday, November 11.

Tumbler Fundraiser is happening now!
Students brought home a fundraiser packet on Friday, Nov. 4,
2011. We are selling an assortment of tumblers for $11.
Please help our school raise
money for instructional needs
and supplies. Students who sell
fundraiser items will receive
homework passes/Get to 30
passes from Ms. Moffett and I,
as well as other prizes from the
school! Orders and money is
due Nov. 14, 2011.
