The story is about Dan the tan man who is on a pan but gets mad and runs away from Nan. Nan puts up an ad looking for Dan which a man sees. The man tries to catch Dan but cannot, making the man sad. Eventually Nan catches Dan and they are both happy again. The story uses words with the "-an" and "-ad" phonograms to teach decoding skills.
