2.vibration Case Study 2

Vibration readings on the input shaft of a gearbox for a CO2 blower showed a sharp rise in acceleration levels in December 2003. Analysis of the vibration spectrum and waveform identified a defect on the inner race of the bearing. The modulated waveform and peak at the bearing's ball pass inner race frequency confirmed the diagnosis. Installing a new bearing reduced the vibration levels as shown in the subsequent trend data.

The CO2 Blower is part of the Lime
Kiln Process.
It draws gasses from the Top of the
Lime Kiln, which are then pumped into
the carbs.

throughout the campaign.
In Dec 2003 the vibration levels on
the input shaft of the reduction gearbox
showed a sharp rise in acceleration G
(impact) levels.
