The Digestive System

The digestive system is made up of the gastrointestinal tract and accessory organs. The gastrointestinal tract includes the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and large intestine. Food is ingested, digested, absorbed, and eliminated through this tract. Accessory organs like the liver, gallbladder and pancreas produce enzymes and bile to break down food in the stomach and small intestine allowing nutrients to be absorbed and pass through the large intestine to be eliminated.
