Ict Integration Project

The ICT Integration Project aims to introduce teachers and administrators to information and communication technology tools that can help manage school data and enhance teaching and learning. The project incorporates ICT gradually, such as using iPads, smartphones, smartboards and laptops to build a technology-rich classroom. For an assessment, students used iPads to scan QR codes linking to videos and documents about Ned Kelly, then completed a quiz on the topic using Kahoot. The project helps engage students in learning and accommodates different learning styles through various media. ICT also makes lessons more inclusive by providing applications for students with disabilities.

ICT Integration Project

The ICT Integration Project focusses on introducing teachers and school

administrators to ICT tools that will facilitate their management of school data and
teaching and learning in classrooms (Savana Signatures, 2015). The idea is to
incorporate ICT in small parts, to build a technology-enriched classroom; This
technology can include things such as iPads and supporting applications, smartphones, smart-boards, laptops, and anything else that has been introduced in the
teaching and learning world in the current era. There are two generations with two
or more different perceptions of technology, according to Marc Prensky; Digital
natives and digital immigrants. For this unit we have mainly been focusing on
introducing the technology that would be more fluent to a digital native (generally
people who have been born in the past ten years though there has been some
debate about the relevance and accuracy of this statement).
For our assessment, we included four types of technology that is relatively new;
Kahoot (established August 2013), iPads, QR Codes and Padlet, plus the use of video
that has been around for quite a while. We started by having the students scan the
QR codes with the iPads, which is combining two pieces of technology. The QR codes
led to either a video, site or document with information on Ned Kelly on it and they
recorded their findings. After this we used Kahoot to carry out a quiz based on the
information that the students gathered from the QR codes. Our lessons focused on
year 4 history, specifically first contacts with the theme of bush rangers, hence the
Ned Kelly references. For our other lessons we would have used other pieces of
technology to enhance the learning experience, without overly making it an ICT
lesson.
We think that the ICT integration project is a good way to get the students
voluntarily involved in the learning process, as well as catering to the students who
learn best from technology; With the use of technology, we can cater to students
who learn best with pictures, text, verbal and a combination of these sources. We
can also be more inclusive toward students with disabilities, as there are many
applications for the iPad as well as websites available for students with disabilities.

students with cerebral palsy; there are also applications for students with autism,
and other learning difficulties. We are looking forward to seeing and using ICT in the
classroom more in the future.
