i-D magazine - Fashion, music, art and youth culture magazine

Cover page:
Complimentary colour palette used to
create a cohesive fluid structure to the

look to the photograph contrasts with the
bright vibrant colours used in the i-D
logo.

Many people are in the belief that the iD logo is on its side, however the truth
is that the logo is supposed to resemble
a winking face, similar to that the
model

When carrying out research into i-D magazines, one

the first thing that I noticed is that all the model has
been shot with one eye closed. It is usually the
models right eye that is shut. This links back the
hidden meaning
behind
the title. The majority of iContents

Paper has a grainy recycled style to it.

The recycled paper look makes it feel
aged but has a nice tactile feel to it.
The grain adds a vintage quality to the
pages that contrast the modern design
of the magazine.

i-D logo fades ad both ends giving a sort

of faked depth to it. It helps to blend it
into the background making the text
easier for people to read. If it was fully
bold across the page the text would be
hard to read.

Centred format adds

I feel that the fonts styles have

been carefully selected, furthering
how well made this magazine
cover page is. The font is thin
which is very different to the

The minimalistic and mono tonal

design makes the cover look
sophisticated and even more
professional. The neutral colours
dont keep the audience varied as
neither gender has been specified.
Therefore both male and female

I really like the unusual font that has

It emphasizes the alternative genre

I find it unusual how the

an image to go with it.
However I think adding an
image may make it look
untidy as the black

create a poor colour contrast.

The subheadings are clear

the contents page effective.

CLASH magazine are one of the only magazines that have placed their page
numbers in the centre of the magazine. The page numbers or magazine edition is
commonly seen at the bottom of the page. I think its interesting how CLASH has
gone against the regular habits of magazine by changing the location of the page
number has. This would be a feature that I would be interested in implementing in
my blog, however it is a feature that would only work if there isnt already and

The black and white colour palette is again used. After I did some research into indie music
magazines and I have discovered that black and white are reoccurring colours that are used.
The monotone colour palette provides a simple yet effective result when developing the
magazine. The use of the black and white only colour palette makes the magazine striking;
this feature seems to be what indie readers prefer.

feel that the creators of this
magazine have deliberately
done this as the model is now
looking in the direction of the
next page, influencing the
reader to carry on reading.

As on the cover page, the model

again fills the entire page, leaving
little room for additional words.
This could be due to the large
amount of text on the previous
page.

I feel that this contents page

really suits the alternative

As there is so much text on the

magazine. The two pictures
give a smooth finish that
isnt unsettling in any way. I
will certain bare this design
in mind when creating my
