The document discusses how cities have changed over time. It first describes cities in the past as places where the middle class lived and worked in small businesses like shops and construction. Now, cities are more congested with a concentration of wealthy single residents. Gentrification has pushed many poor residents out, leading to inequality between the rich living in cities and poor relying on subsidies. The main argument made is that dispersion of populations across smaller cities and towns, rather than concentration in large metropolises, is healthier for people. Supporting points include that cities are unequal and hard on the poor, innovation does not necessarily depend on cities as traditional sector development is also important, and suburbs are more environmentally friendly with less energy waste than cities.
