1) Hang a 500g mass on a string clamped to a table and pluck the string, observing its vibration and sound. Record the pitch as high, medium, or low. 2) Press a key in the middle of the string to divide it in half. Pluck each half and record the results. 3) Press the key in different places along the string to change its length. Pluck each new section and record the results.

4. Use a key or some other small metal object. Press this object
down on the string right in the middle, to hold the string
firmly against the table. Pluck each half of the string.

5. To change the string length, press down with the key at the
different places shown in the diagrams on the next page.
Pluck each part of the string.
