Assignment For Highway II

The document describes a homogeneous half-space subjected to two circular loads spaced 800mm apart. It asks to determine the vertical, radial, and tangential stresses and strains at point K, 400mm below the surface and at the edge of the right loading. It also asks for the deflection and shear stress at point K, and provides charts to reference for the calculations.

Stresses in Pavements
Figure shows a homogeneous half-space subjected to two circular loads, each 250 mm in diameter
and spaced at 800 mm inner to inner end. The pressure on the circular area is 370 KPa. The halfspace has elastic modulus 90 MPa and Poisson ratio 0.5. Point K is located at the outer edge of
the right loading, 400 mm below from the surface.
Determine:
a. The Vertical, Radial and Tangential Stress at Point K.
b. The Vertical, Radial and Tangential Strains at Point K.
c. The deflection at point K.
d. The shear Stress at point K.
(N.B Use the attached Charts no 1 to 5)
