Multiplying Radicals Notes

This document provides examples and steps for multiplying radicals. It explains that you first multiply the numbers outside of the radicals, then the numbers inside, and combine the results. It also notes that when multiplying radicals, you can only multiply terms with the same index, and when adding or subtracting radicals, they must be exactly the same.

Example 3:
1. Multiply the outside numbers first
2. Multiply the inside numbers

Example 4:

31=3

Multiply:
Step 1: Distribute (or FOIL) to remove the
parenthesis. Remember that you can multiply
numbers outside the radical with numbers outside
the radical and numbers inside the radical with
numbers inside the radical, assuming the radicals
have the same index.
Step 2: Simplify the radicals.
Step 3: Combine like terms. Remember that in
order to add or subtract radicals the radicals must
be exactly the same. In this case, there are no like
terms.
