Week 21

This week, many students were absent from school due to illness. Those who were present showed resilience as they returned. In language arts, the class worked on the letter E and completed writing projects about things they love and wish lists for turning 100. Students made Valentine crafts including bags, poems, and cotton ball art. They also created "old" versions of themselves for 100 day. The class began a unit on telling time in math and continued celebrating 100 days of school. A snow melting experiment was done in science. Religion lessons focused on Lent, Ash Wednesday, and the meaning of Shrove Tuesday.

Week 21

Oh what a week it has been! We have had the flu of all flus hit our
school. We have had many, many friends away this week. As the
students have come trickling back, they are showing signs of resilience
and pinker cheeks than before!
Our Super Heros this week were Ayana and Piper! Ayana read
Froggy goes to School and Piper read I am Small.

The children continue to do a marvelous job of reading to their friends!

Language: This week we worked on the letter Ee. We also completed
two variations of a Writers Workshop. One was an I Love booklet
and the other was I wish I had 100. The students helped me to
create a Before I turn 100 bucket list. They came up with some fun
ideas of things theyd like to complete before they turn 100!

Art: Students have completed many different Valentine crafts this

week. They made a Valentine bag to hold their cards, handprint poems
and cotton ball art. They also made an old version of themselves for
100 day!
Phys. Ed.: There was no formal phys. Ed this week. Wednesday we had
Ash Wednesday mass instead and Friday was the cake raffle. We will
continue next week.
Math: We began our Telling Time unit this week. We have finished up
with our 3-D shapes unit. We also began our 100 days of school
celebrations. With all the absences and bus cancellations, we will
continue this celebration next week as well.
Science: We completed a snow melting experiment. We measured the
snow before it melted and then again once it melted. We discussed why
the heights were different.
Religion: We are beginning our discussion of Lent. We had an Ash
Wednesday lesson. Students learned that we wear a cross on our
forehead to show the world that we love Jesus and appreciate all he has
endured for us. Students had a chance to make the mark of the cross
on faces on the smart board, in order to understand what would happen
during the mass. We also had a discussion of what Shrove Tuesday
means and where it came from. Ayana and Ave Maria both enjoyed
pancakes for the first time!!!!! They agreed they were yummy!
