The African technology market is booming, which is making tech savvy companies
excited about future opportunity. Last month, Netflix was rolled out throughout the entire
continent. Homegrown tech company IROKOtv, founded in Nigeria, emerged as a
competitor to Netflix only two weeks after Netflixs announcement. The Ted Organization
recently invested $3 million into Kenya based BRCK, which manufactures Wi-Fi devices.
Uber has also showed interest in meeting the local needs of Nigerian residents by rolling out
a cash payment option.

TRAAP
Time: This article was written in February 2016, and no updates have been made to the
article.
Relevance: There is a large amount of relevance in the article that pertains to the topic I
chose to research. It was a very interesting article that answered some questions I had.
Authority: While the author, Jake Bright, holds a masters degree from Columbia University,
and was a former speechwriter for President Bill Clinton, Im not entirely sure he has the
qualifications to write about the emerging technologies in Africa. This material was gathered
by researching the authors personal website. This conclusion was derived from lack of
knowledge on his information technology background. Bright provides interview material
with various spokespersons employed with the technology companies growing in Africa.
Outside of interviews, he does not provide any other sources in his story.
Accuracy: After searching company press reports and blogs, the material covered in this
article seems to be accurate.
Purpose: This article was written to inform readers of the technology growth occurring on a
Continent with inferior capabilities. The article shows no bias.
Comparison
When considering a topic such as emerging technologies, there are vast amounts of
information circulating the internet. I discovered that internet search engines such as
Google, Yahoo, or Bing provide speed and easy access to information. However, that
material may not be as scholarly and meaty when compared to peer reviewed articles found
in research databases. For example, emerging technologies in Africa, and Samsungs prototype display on tractor trailers contain interesting information about the progress of
technology to ease the lives of people. But this information provided no research efforts to
support it. The information I read about emerging military technologies and capitalizing on
emerging technologies was packed with research studies and supportive information. While
this material took some time to find, the information I gathered was definitely worth the time
it took to find.
The time it takes to search, gather, study, and learn information varies depending on the
resource tool you use. I found that the scholarly articles I researched took much longer to
study, but the research was rich with pertinent information. Using internet search engines
allow for a much quicker process, but lacks the rich, pertinent information found in a
research database. Deciding which resource to use really depends on the integrity of the
information being sought. Internet search engines provide quick, easy results, but research
databases provide the quality information.
The peer reviewed articles I researched contained great authority. The authors, being
experts in the field of emerging technologies, provided support and evidence on their topic.
After the information was finalized, it was checked and approved by other individuals with
the same amount, if not more knowledge on the topic. The internet search engines produced
less authoritative information. The authors provided basic information about the topic they
wrote about. Minimal efforts were exhausted to verify and support the information. The
information lacked the deep research and support used in peer reviewed information.
