Interview With Mr. B. Singh, CMD, MADE EASY Group: Aptitude Test Popular Score
I advice candidates should start preparation from third year itself in order to crack GATE exam. Now a
days lacs of engineering aspirants are appearing for GATE exam. An early start is first step towards
success.
What is the role of coaching classes for preparation of GATE? How MADE EASY helps a student
in GATE preparation?
The prime motto of any coaching institute is to train the candidate for desired examination with in
stipulated time period. At MADE EASY we believe in providing systematic teaching methodology
considering the trends of the examination. We help students to understand the basics of the subjects
first and then slowly we raise our teaching standard to advanced level. If basics are strong and
concepts are clear students can easily crack any examination. And for practicing we have GATE online
test series and Centre Based Test (CBT).
There are a lot of students who are apprehensive about the online (computer based test)
pattern. In your opinion, is the format something to be worried about?
Absolutely I have noticed many engineering students struggling to fill online forms; online payments
and also they are not very comfortable taking tests at an online platform. As technology is growing
rapidly, in the near future all the exams will be conducted online, so students have to practice more
on online platforms. To overcome these challenges we have developed GATE Online Test Series,
where students will experience actual feel of online test platform.
What should be the success mantra to crack GATE?
Five success MANTRAS to crack GATE are:
Right Strategy
Proper Planning
Motivational Guidance
Appropriate Practice
Good Source of Study Material
What challenges students are facing in GATE preparation and how to overcome them?
The quality of engineers is going down every year. In general, students are weak in core subjects; they
are required to work more on basics and build the concepts. One more challenge is to perform under
pressure, so candidate has to practice more and more to develop qualities to face exams.
If one wants to clear GATE exam in first attempt, what should be the strategy?
GATE is not semester exam; its a competitive exam; only top 15% of the candidates will get their
dream opportunities. Good understanding of the subjects and sticking to proper plan is very
essential. Analyze GATE syllabus and pay more importance to subjects having more weightage. Enroll
for mock tests and take those tests seriously and try to overcome your weak areas.
For the past 3-4 years a number of PSUs have started using GATE score to recruit candidates. In
their selection process generally more weightage is given to GATE score and less weightage is
given to personal interview. Do you think it is the right trend?
In traditional exam patterns, 80-85% weightage is given to marks of written exam and 15-20%
weightage is given to interview or group discussions. In present scenario GATE Score = Written Exam,
all these PSUs are considering these scores instead of conducting their own written exams. According
to me in both the patterns the weightage for personal interview remains more or less the same.
You have qualified various exams like GATE; PSUs & ESE. How was your experience, what
motivated you to start MADE EASY?
I graduated from IT-BHU in 1998, I studied myself and cracked engineering services 3 times in the year
2001, 2002 and 2003. That time, there were many good institutes for IIT-JEE, Civil Services, CAT
preparations but there was no institute for IES aspirants. I had zeal to teach, and this zeal motivated
me to resign the prestigious job and take teaching as a career. After cracking IES exam I thought, I
have become an IES officer, let me now create some. In ESE-2015 all the toppers in all the 4 streams
are MADE EASY students, 81% of the total selections in ESE-2015 are from MADE EASY. And I feel very
proud when people say that MADE EASY is an IES Manufacturing Factory
Why should a student opt for GATE exam?
GATE is actually a GATE-WAY for various attractive opportunities for engineers. Candidates can pursue
higher studies like M.Tech/M.E/M.S/P.hD in prestigious institutes like IISc/IITs/NITs/IIITs etc. Around
23-25 Navratna and Maharatna companies are directly recruiting candidates on the basis of GATE
scores. There are opportunities like senior research fellow, junior research fellow, research associates,
scientist in various research oriented organizations like CSIR, BARC, IITs etc.
Any suggestion/advice for aspiring GATE candidates?
Stick to proper study plan and refer best source of study material. Watch lectures available on NPTEL
websites. Practice the usage of virtual calculator. Practice hard to develop; Accuracy and time
management, as these are very important parameters to crack GATE. Online Test series is very
effective for practicing; always give a gap of minimum 3 to 4 days between every mock test. Dont be
choosy about the subjects, they can ask any number of questions from any topic.
I wish good to all the GATE aspirants.
